It’s exactly what it sounds like — a candle that burns for approximately 20 minutes.

For us, we found that it is easier to do the hard, heavy-lifting kind of work that lives on a to-do list. But the rituals and activities for pleasure and enjoyment—like crafting, reading, journaling, sewing, baking, stretching—are easily kicked to the curb. The 20 minute candle helps us commit to these activities in a gentle, tactile, and beautiful way.

We’ve been sharing the candles with the people in our lives, and we’ve loved seeing how they use them in a way that is individual and special to them.

For one, it was lighting a candle and committing to a meditation practice every morning. For another, it was lighting a candle every night to remember a parent that they lost. It was lighting a candle and hand-writing a letter to someone important. It was lighting a candle and reading a devotional before the kids woke up.

We’ve found that 20 minutes is the perfect amount of time. Not too long, not too short. It’s just right, just enough.
